Trade Deadline Roundup
Posted January 11th, 2018 @ 1:19 pm

CANMORE AB - The AJHL Trade deadline saw two separate transactions for the Canmore Eagles. In the first transaction of the day, the Eagles traded the Junior A playing rights for forward Bryce Platt to the Estevan Bruins (SJHL) for future considerations. The second transaction the Eagles acquired forward Connor Lyons and future considerations from the Fort McMurray Oil Barons (AJHL).

Playing for the Regina Pats this season, ’98 forward Bryce Platt appeared in 37 games, posting 6 points and acquiring 42 penalty minutes. Platt originally played for the Eagles during the 2016-17 season where he tallied 35 points in 50 games and collected 128 penalty minutes. To keep Platt closer to his hometown in Regina, the Eagles moved his Junior A rights in exchange for future considerations to the Estevan Bruins.

"This was a move that was in place to accommodate Bryce and his request,” said Head Coach and GM Andrew Milne, “He has some things going on personally and felt he needed to be close to home.  As an organization we respect that.  We are happy we were able to make that happen.  He is good player and gave us everything he had in his time here.  We wish him and his family all the best moving forward.”

Connor Lyons is in his first season in the AJHL and has recorded 11 points in 29 games. From Lethbridge AB, the ’99 born 6’1, 185 lb. forward is a product of the AMHL Midget AAA Hurricanes and has appeared in 1 game with the WHL Lethbridge Hurricanes. The Eagles have acquired Lyons as well as future considerations from the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in a trade that included forward Coy Prevost.

"Connor is a big kid and someone that was familiar to our organization, he completes hard night after night and has skill to complement his work ethic,” said Andrew Milne, “We are excited to get him into our line up and showcase what he is capable of accomplishing at this level.”

Eagles Captain, Coy Prevost, began his junior A career with the Eagles at the start of the 2015-16 season. The Kimberley native, dressed in every game since, playing in 158 regular season games, Coy scored 126 points and while adding 198 penalty minutes. This season, Prevost has been a dominating factor on the ice and a true leader in the dressing room. In 38 games he has 39 points and 110 penalty minutes.

"Coy was our heart and soul, he is a true captain and it always hurts losing a player like Coy, but we felt that this was the right fit for both our organization and Coy,” said Andrew Milne, “We get the opportunity to secure some players for the future and keep us competitive, as well as giving Coy an opportunity with one of the premier clubs in our league right now.”

Prevost’s departure is not only felt at a team level but also beyond the dressing room walls.

“Coy has been such an ambassador to our Bow Valley Community and the hockey team both on and off the ice for the past 3 seasons and we cannot thank him enough,” said President Darryl Lockwood, “On behalf of the Eagles Board of Directors, fans, volunteers, and Coaching staff we wish Coy the very best of luck. Once an Eagle always an Eagle.”
