The Canmore Eagles are scaling new heights these days – both in the Alberta Junior Hockey League Southern Division standings and at Canmore’s new Elevation Place climbing wall.
With assistance and instruction from world-class climber Barb Clemes, the entire Eagle team took a break from on-ice practicing earlier this week to take advantage of Canmore’s incredible climbing facility at Elevation Place.
“It was a pretty cool opportunity for our guys to experience climbing, especially with such a great instructor, at an amazing facility,” said Eagle’s Head Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne. “We got together Monday night at Elevation Place for a climbing presentation from Barb, and then we got together again on Tuesday morning for a quick lesson and tutorial on safety procedures, and then we were off to the races.
“Overall, it was a pretty humbling experience for our guys to try something so totally different from their daily routine. A lot of boys were really impressed with how demanding it was. We are a very lucky hockey club to have such a cool facility right in our own backyard. The climbing wall is truly amazing and offers routes for climbers of all skill levels. After trying their luck on the wall, the team also got to enjoy the swimming pool and a little hot tubing for some relaxing. All in all, it was a great day for the boys. A nice escape from our usual day to day activities.”
The team would like to thank Barb Clemes and the Town of Canmore for their help and assistance.
