UPCOMING HOME GAMES
Sunday, Jan. 3 – Okotoks Oilers at Canmore – 2 PM
Friday, Jan. 8 – Camrose Kodiaks at Canmore – 7 PM
The Canmore Eagles will be looking for a little revenge and their first win of the 2016 season when they host the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday, Jan. 3 at the Canmore Recreation Centre. Game time is 2 PM.
The Eagles came up just short in the first game of their current home and home series with the Oilers as they fell 3-2 to the Oilers in Okotoks on Saturday, Jan. 2.
The loss dropped the Eagles overall record to 18-14-4, while the Oilers improved to 21-15-02. The victory gives the Oilers 44 points in the Alberta Junior Hockey League Southern Division standings and increased their lead over the Eagles by four points in the battle for third-place. The Eagles however have played two less games than the Oilers.
Canmore, which received goals from forwards Adam Tisdale (5th) and Logan Ferguson (11th), outshot the Oilers by a 35-27 margin during last night’s game in Okotoks, including a 16-7 margin in the third period. Eagle goaltender Ryan Bontorin took the loss and saw his overall record drop to 9-9-2.
“We had plenty of chances to win, but the puck just didn’t go in for us,” said Eagles Head Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne. “We had a one minute lapse in the second period when they scored two goals, but other then that, we had good jump and controlled most of the play. Our powerplay is a big threat and they did a good job of not giving us chances. We need to play the same way Sunday afternoon and hopefully the puck can't work against us for that long again.“
