NEXT HOME GAME – GAME 2 VS DRUMHELLER – SAT, MARCH 15 @ 7 PM
It may only be Game Two in their best-of-seven Alberta Junior Hockey League Southern Division semi final playoff series, but the Canmore Eagles will be facing a must win situation when they host the Drumheller Dragons on Saturday night (March 15) at the Canmore Recreation Centre.
The third-seeded Dragons took Game One of the series on Friday night when they outhustled the 5th-seeded hometown Eagles to register a 6-2 victory over Canmore before a full house of 675 fans.
With games 3, 4 and 5 slated for the Drumheller Memorial Arena next week, the Eagles can ill afford to go down 2-0 in the series before they travel east to the badlands of Drumheller.
Friday night’s “Game One” outcome was never in doubt as the Dragons came out flying and held a 2-0 lead after the first period and extended it to a 5-2 margin after two periods of play.
“We just didn’t play our game tonight,” said Eagle’s Head Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne, whose club was outshot by a 36-27 margin. “We got caught standing around watching things happen instead of making things happen. They came at us pretty hard and for whatever reason that caught us by surprise which was shocking to me. We got better as the game went on and hopefully we’ll build off our third period. The puck wasn’t bouncing our way, but you also have to earn your bounces, which we didn’t tonight. I fully expect our guys to be better Saturday night.”
Austen Hebert and Lane Olson had the lone Eagles goals.
Game time tonight at the Canmore Recreation Centre is 7 PM. The ticket booth will open early at 3 PM and there are still plenty of tickets available for tonight's game.
