The Canmore Eagles recorded their third consecutive victory Friday night as they downed the hometown Calgary Canucks 5-3 in Alberta Junior Hockey League action at the Max Bell arena.
The victory, before a crowd of just 125, marked the first three-game winning streak for the Eagles since January 2014 and improves Canmore’s overall record to 16-17-1.
Canmore remains in sixth-place in the AJHL Southern Division standings with 33 points, three points behind the 5th-place Olds Grizzlys, but seven points up on the 7th-place Canucks.
The Eagles received goals from five different players with Jordan Revie (15th), Joe Serpico (9th), Adam Tisdale (1st), Brett Schimmel (3rd) and Connor Wilson (13th) all flashing the red goal light.
Eagle netminder Ryan Ferguson, making his 17 consecutive start between the pipes, stopped 29 of 32 Canucks shots and improved his record to 14-16-1. Sixteen year-old Adam Tisdale, playing his 2nd AJHL game, was named the Eagle’s “Star of the Game”.
“A win is a win – we started well, had a few lapses in the middle period but closed it out well,” said Eagles Head Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne, who returned to the bench after missing the previous three games with Hockey Canada commitments. “It was great to see Tisdale score his first AJHL goal tonight. He has been playing very well in Midget (AC Avalanche) and he is a high offence guy and his goal tonight was a great play from his good friend and former team-mate Noah Philp. Noah also played a great game tonight and battled hard. It was also my first game behind the bench to watch newcomers Reid Wilson and Mackenzie Watson in live action, and both were very solid.”
