Eagles unable to corral Bandits
The high-flying Brooks Bandits completed a sweep of their Alberta Junior Hockey League doubleheader with the hometown Canmore Eagles on Friday, Oct. 15.
Brooks posted a 9-1 win over Canmore before 392 fans at the Recreation Centre outshooting the Eagles 66-7 in the process. The Bandits outshot the Eagles 24-1 in the opening period, with the only shot from an Eagle resulting in Kayden Smith”™s third goal of the season.
The goal tied the game at 1-1 midway through the period, but the Bandits would regain the lead before the first 20 minutes was completed and would hold 2-1 and 5-1 leads at the breaks. Four goals in the final eight minutes of the third period made for the final scoreline.
Dominick Campione (3 goals on the season) scored twice for the visitors with singles from Ethan Lund (1), Ryan McAllister (12), Hunter Wallace (5), Brendan Mairs (1), Devin Phillips (6) and Zach Bookman (2).
The goaltenders in this game were Ethan Barwick for Brooks and Matthew Malin for Canmore
The Bandits were 4-for-9 on the power play while Canmore was 0-for-2.
Brooks improved to a league best 10-1-0 with the victory. The Bandits also defeated the Eagles 5-0 on Thursday, Oct. 14.
Canmore (3-7-0) takes to the road today, Saturday, Oct. 16 for their third game in three days as they travel to Drumheller to play the Dragons (7-3-1). Game time at the Memorial Arena is 7 p.m.
