Riley Point has a new task ahead of him as the Canmore Eagles’ team captain.
Point, now in his last year of junior A eligibility, has spent his entire junior hockey career with the Alberta Junior Hockey League club. And though the team has seen its ups and downs over the past few years, he’s keeping his optimism.
“We only have four rookies this year, which is way down from the last few years. I think all of the other guys being a year older, and our goaltending situation is the best it’s been in a long time,” he said.
“I think we’re in a good spot to have some success in the south for sure.”
Point, 20, started his junior career with the Eagles in the 2008-2009 season, and began making his mark as a forward soon after. The 2009-2010 season saw Point bag six goals and nine assists, and his performance has steadily increased. Last season was his best, scoring 12 goals and 30 assists. While his personal performance is clearly a priority, he’s taking on a bigger role as this year’s team captain.
