PREVIEW
SEDO’S NET
Hudson Sedo has been a constant in the Eagles’ crease to start the season , playing every game so far and putting himself in position to make his fourth consecutive start Friday afternoon.
Sedo was sharp in Canmore’s last outing, stopping 31 of 33 shots in a 6-2 win over the Drumheller Dragons. The 20 year old made several key saves while the game was still close, giving the Eagles time to pull away and secure their first road win of the season.
DEPTH SCORING MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Scoring depth helped carry the Eagles to their first AJHL championship last season, and their early results suggest that strength could be a factor again.
Bryson Insinger currently leads Canmore with five points through 3 games, recording two goals and three assists. Owen Mastroianni sits tied for second with four points, along side Jonathan Gomez, Cohen Daoust and Landon Scott.
CHANSKI’S HOMECOMING
Friday’s visit to Grande Prairie carries added significance for Nixon Chanski.
The Eagles newcomer played for the Grande Peace Storm U18 AAA program last season, finishing with eight goals and 20 assists for 28 points. He now returns to the community wearing Canmore colours and competing at the junior level.
Chanski is coming off his first AJHL fight, dropping the gloves with Drumheller captain Nick McLennan in the Eagles’ last game.
A CHANCE TO REWRITE LAST YEAR’S RESULT
The Eagles will also be looking to erase the memory of last year’s Hockey Hooky game in Grande Prairie.
The Storm skated away with a 5-1 victory over Canmore. Cohen Daoust had the only goal for the Eagles, who outshot the Storm 42-25.
This time, Canmore arrives with a perfect record and plenty of early-season confidence. Friday’s matchup offers the Eagles an opportunity to respond to last season’s loss and establish a different result in Grande Prairie.
