Where are they now?
With the Canmore Eagles set for another playoff run, it seems fitting to check in on some of the players that have featured for the franchise through the years. The junior A team has seen close to 1,000 players take that first step onto successful junior, college, amateur and professional careers since 1995.
Some players were even lucky enough to get their junior hockey starts with their hometown team. With that in mind, here is a look at some of the Canmore Eagles’ alumni making an impact around the hockey world in the 2025-26 season, starting with the hometown connection.
Owen Jones, now at the University of Windsor, will be playing for a USports championship this weekend, The UofW Lancers are in a semifinal game against St. Mary’s on Saturday, March 21. The Lancers defeated the Mount Royal Cougars 4-3 on Thursday with the freshman assisting on the game’s opening goal and then helping set up the eventual game winner with less than 10 minutes to play in the third period.
Jones led the Canmore Eagles in scoring last season with 61 points (22G-39A) and played 165 games over four seasons and compiled 138 points (56G-82A). In his freshman season with the University of Windsor, the 21-year-old had 19 points (5G-14A) in 27 regular-season games and has added three assists in five playoff games.
Noah Philp (F) (2014-15) started the season with the Edmonton Oilers (15GP-2G-1A) and was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes on Dec. 29. He played just two games before being put on injured reserve for a concussion for the second time this season. The Coming out that concussion, the Hurricanes placed Noah on waivers Jan. 28 with the purpose of assigning him to the AHL Chicago Wolves, where he has played 15 games through Thursday and has 1G-4A.
Luke Philp (F) (2011-12) just completed his first season with Swedish Hockey League’s Farjestad BK where he was second in team scoring with 35 points (13G-22A) in 52 games. Farjestad finished fifth in the league at 21-20-6-5 and are preparing for a quarter-final playoff series against fourth-place Rogle BK, which begins Tuesday, March 24.
Finn McLaughlin (D) (2022-23) is a freshman with the University of Minnesota Gophers and saw his season come to an end Wednesday in a 6-2 loss to the Gavin McKenna-led Penn State Nittany Lions in the Big 10 Conference quarterfinals. The Canmore native played 32 games and picked up one assist this season.

NHL
Brayden Point (F) (2011-12) is on this list despite playing just four games with the Eagles in the middle of that 2011-12 season when he joined his older brother Riley – who would go on to play 218 games and captain the team. Brayden would quickly head off to the WHL Moose Jaw Warriors and an illustrious junior career. Now in his 10th NHL season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, he has 44 points (16G-28A) in 48 games as of Thursday but missed the Olympics due to a lower body injury.
ECHL
Alex Young (F) (2017-2020) is in his second season with the Atlanta Gladiators. Just 24 years old, he is having a breakout season with 53 points (24G-29A) in 58 games.
Tian Rask (F) (2017-2020) is currently playing for the Greensboro Gargoyles after starting the season with the Wichita Thunder. He has three assists in 36 games.
Southern Professional Hockey League
Brody Tallman (D) (2022-2024) recently signed a contract with the Pensacola ice Flyers, where he has played six games (1A). The former Eagles captain had just completed his second year at Grant MacEwan University (Edmonton), where he was teammates with two other former Eagles: Rhett Dekowny and Vincent Scott, who we will touch on later.
NCAA Div. 1
Brody Mortenson (D) and Tyler Loughman (F) (2022-2024) just completed their sophomore seasons with Lindenwood University (St. Charles, Missouri). Mortenson, the AJHL’s outstanding defenceman in his final junior A season, had 2G-2A in 22 games this season. Loughman picked up seven assists in 29 games.
Luke Chase (D) (2023-24) finished up his sophomore season with Arizona State University with one goal in 26 games.
USports
Jared Brinson (D) (2024-25) played 21 games with the University of Regina earning three assists in his freshman season.
Tristan Zandee (F) (2019-20) just finished his third season with Mount Royal University. He had 5G-5A in 17 games this season.
Vincent Scott (F) (2021-2023) just finished his third season with Grant MacEwan University (Edmonton). He played 22 games this season with 8G-14A.
Rhett Dekowny (F) (2022-2025) just finished his freshman season with Grant MacEwan University (Edmonton) where he played 26 games with 1G-8A.
NCAA Div. 3
Riley Dekowny (F) (2020-2023), the older brother to Rhett, just finished his third season at Aurora University (Illinois), appearing in just four games and picking up one assist.
Ethan Look (F) (2023-2025) has finished his freshman season with Lawrence University (Appleton, Wisconsin), appearing in 23 games (2G-3A).
Nolan Kazeil (F) (2023-2025) has completed his freshman season with Alvernia University (Reading, Pennsylvania), playing in 26 games (1G-5A).
Isaac Suppin (F) (2021-22) has completed his third season with College of St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.) where he played 20 games and had 2G-7A.
Tristan Kimmen (F) (2019-20) just finished his third season with Nichols College (Dudley, Massachusetts). This season he played 25 games and had 6G-7A.
Mitchell Watson (F) and Lane Paddison (F) (2019-2022) just finished their senior seasons with Manhattanville College (located 30 miles north of New York City in Purchase, N.Y.). Over four seasons, Watson played 99 games and registered 46 points (16G-30A) and Paddison played 91 games and registered 54 points (18G-36A).
Independent Universities
Kyle Young (F) (2019-2023), the younger brother to Alex, is at Simon Fraser University (Burnaby. B.C.), and in his second year featured in 20 games with 2G-6A.
These are just a few of the hundreds of former players to feature for the Canmore Eagles, whether it be for one or two games on their development path or 200-plus games, currently playing in competitive leagues around the world.
