Canmore, AB (November, 2016) – The Canmore Eagles of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are ecstatic to announce that 1996-born forward and team captain Matt Forchuk (Okotoks, AB) has committed to attend and play for Quinnipiac Bobcats, beginning in the 2017-18 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) hockey season.
Located in Hamden, Connecticut, the Bobcats play in the NCAA’s Division I ECAC. The Quinnipiac Bobcats finished 1st in the ECAC conference during the 2015-2016 season. Recently, the Bobcats have been ranked 6th in the USCHO Poll and 7th in USA Today/ USA Hockey Magazine Poll for top NCAA programs.
Matt is off to a fantastic start this season and is currently the AJHL’s leading scorer with 11 goals 19 assists for 30 pts in only 16 games.
“We are extremely pleased for Matt and his family today. Matt has worked very hard to accomplish this,” said Eagles Head Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne. “He has made tremendous strides in his development not only as a hockey player but also a person.”
Forchuk is in his third season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League spending all his time with the Canmore Eagles. Over this period Matt has played 122 games scoring 51 goals and adding 83 assists for 134 points.
“We wish Matt all the best in his collegiate career and look forward to watching Matt play out his final AJHL season and seeing what else he can accomplish.”
