The Olds Grizzlys erupted for five second period goals and scored three power play goals on Saturday night to register a 6-4 victory over the Canmore Eagles in an Alberta Junior Hockey League game played before 411 spectators at the Canmore Recreation Centre.
The loss evened the Eagle’s early season AJHL record to 1-1, while the Grizzlies improved to 2-1-1.
The two teams will meet each other again in a rematch in Olds on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
The Eagles, who were outshot 37-27, received goals from Ryley Risling (2), Jordan Revie (2), Connor Wilson (2) and rookie Logan Ferguson (1). Canmore netminder Ryan Ferguson took the loss to see his record drop to 1-1.
“We simply got outworked tonight and when we had a defensive breakdown, we didn’t get the save that we needed,” said Eagle’s Head Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne, whose team has given up 11 goals in just two games. “We have a lot of work ahead of us to tighten up defensively. But the good thing for us is we get to play them again on Tuesday night.”
