The Canmore Eagles dominated the Drumheller Dragons 6-2 in the Dragons’ home opener Friday night at Memorial Arena. It’s the first road win of the season for the Eagles, who improved to 3-0. The Dragons meanwhile are left still looking for their first win, dropping to 0-2-1.
Hudson Sedo was superb in between the pipes, making a number of stops when the game was still close. He picked up his third straight win in between the pipes, stopping 31 of 33 shots. Sedo’s first shutout of the season was broken at 14:33 of the third period by Lauchlan Kozicky. Bradley Gallo had the other goal for the Dragons. Dragons’ goaltender Brandon Williams was pulled in the third period for Holden Murphy after surrendering 5 goals on 21 shots.
The Eagles were paced by Cohen Daoust, who scored his first two goals of the season, including his first 35 seconds into the game. Bryson Insinger, Owen Mastroianni, Mason Moran and Quinn Keeler had the other goals for the Eagles.
There was no love lost between the two rivals who combined for 104 minutes in penalties Friday night. Two Eagles dropped the gloves for the first time this season as Nixon Chanski squared off against Dragons’ captain Nick McLennan, while Landon Scott battled Noa Halat.
Next up for the Eagles is a 3 games in 3 night road trip, starting Friday afternoon in Grande Prairie. Puck drop is at 12 pm on Flohockey.
