The Florida Panthers have recalled goaltender Sam Brittain from the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL), the team announced Monday.
Brittain, 22, has played 12 games for Cincinnati this season, posting a 6-5-1 record with one shutout. He was named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week (Dec. 22-28) after going 1-0-0 with a 0.97 goals-against average and a .970 save percentage. This is his first NHL call up.
A fourth-round pick, 92nd overall, of the Panthers in 2010, Brittain appeared in 97 games with the Denver Pioneers (NCHC) going 51-34-11 with seven shutouts in his collegiate career. Priot to Denver, Brittain played for the Canmore Eagles of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
As a senior, he led Denver to the inaugural NCHC Championship and was named 2014 NCHC Goalie of the Year. He was also one of five finalists for the Mike Richter Award, which is set to be given annually to the goalie who best displays outstanding skill on the ice, along with academic achievement, sportsmanship and community service.
A Calgary, Alberta native, Brittain signed an entry-level contract with Florida on July 2, 2014.
