The Canmore Eagles return to Alex Kaleta Arena for Parents Weekend on Friday night to take on the rival Calgary Canucks. Canmore swept the weekend series the last time these teams met, winning 6–4 and 5–1. Calgary comes into the rematch with points in four straight games and sits just two points behind the second-place Eagles in the AJHL South Division.

Komarniski adds scoring to his physical game

Miller Komarniski needed only 14 games to surpass his point total from last season. The Eagles forward has six goals and six assists for 12 points after recording 10 in 45 games a year ago. He’s already matched last season’s goal total and has two goals on the power play.

Komarniski still brings energy on the forecheck and makes opponents work for pucks along the boards. His added scoring gives Canmore more depth, and that showed Wednesday in Olds. Komarniski was one of four Eagles to score at five-on-five in a 5–4 win over the Grizzlys, Canmore’s second straight victory.

M’Hamed earns AJHL Player of the Week honours

Calgary forward Adam M’Hamed was named the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week on October 27 after recording three goals and three assists in two games. He finished that stretch with two goals and two assists in a 9–4 win over Olds, extending his point streak to five games at the time. M’Hamed enters Friday leading the Canucks with 17 points in 16 games, including six power-play assists.

Canucks are picking up points on the road

Calgary has gone 3–0–1–0 over its last four games, all away from home. The run began with the nine-goal night in Olds and continued with a sweep in Fort McMurray, where the Canucks beat the Oil Barons 5–1 and 3–2 in overtime. They picked up another point in a 3–2 overtime loss to Bonnyville to close out three road games in three days.

Friday marks Calgary’s fifth straight road game. The Eagles have scored 11 goals over their last two outings and can open up a four-point gap on the Canucks with a regulation win.
