The Canmore Eagles have an immediate opportunity to respond tonight as they welcome the Camrose Kodiaks back to the Nest following Friday’s 6–5 shootout loss.
There was no shortage of offence or opportunities in the weekend opener. The Eagles will look to carry that pressure into tonight while tightening up defensively to secure a split.
SOLVING KNORR
Connor Knorr delivered a remarkable performance Friday, stopping 56 of 61 shots for a .918 save percentage. His night included 24 third-period saves, followed by multiple crucial stops in overtime and the shootout.
The 56 saves and Canmore’s 61 shots were both AJHL season highs. Knorr now owns a 2.85 goals-against average and .913 save percentage through 11 appearances.
For Canmore, the task is to keep creating opportunities while making those saves more difficult. Getting bodies to the crease, taking away sightlines and winning battles for rebounds will be important as the Eagles look to turn sustained pressure into a victory.
DEMBO BREAKS THROUGH
Ryder Dembo’s breakout game gives the Eagles another encouraging storyline heading into the rematch.
Dembo enters tonight with three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 11 games, placing him second in team scoring. His 11 assists are also tied for second in the AJHL.
Dembo has found real chemistry playing alongside Bryson Insinger and Miller Komarniski, giving the Eagles another dangerous combination up front. Canmore will look for that trio to build on Friday’s performance in tonight’s rematch.
TKACHUK AND DAOUST BACK ON THE BOARD
Aidan Tkachuk and Cohen Daoust each snapped a two-game scoreless drought Friday. Tkachuk finished with a goal and an assist and was also the only Eagle to beat Connor Knorr in the shootout.
With both forwards back on the scoresheet and Dembo coming off a breakout effort, the Eagles will look to keep their offence rolling while finding the defensive consistency needed to finish the job.
