EAGLES DROP KODIAKS 4-3 IN OVERTIME

EAGLE’S NEXT GAME: SATURDAY, JAN. 26 IN BROOKS.
EAGLE’S NEXT HOME GAME: TUESDAY, JAN. 29 VERSUS CALGARY MUSTANGS

Connor Wilson scored the tying goal with just :21 seconds remaining in the third period, and Zack Rassell scored the game winner at 2:32 of sudden-death overtime as the Canmore Eagles came from behind to defeat the visiting Camrose Kodiaks 4-3 in Alberta Junior A Hockey League action Friday night at the Canmore Recreation Centre.
It was the Eagle’s 10th win in their last 11 games and first victory over the Kodiaks in four attempts this season. The win improves the Eagle’s record to 20-20-5, a substantial improvement from their last-place record of 10-19-5 back on Dec. 18.
“Tonight was certainly a game for the fans to enjoy, not the coaches,” said Eagle’s Head Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne, whose club went penalty free on the night. “It was a very gritty effort by our boys. Camrose is a team known for their hard work and I thought they brought it tonight, and we matched it, and even carried it at times. The boys got rewarded for their efforts tonight. It was a physical game and we took some punishment, but we just kept working towards winning the game.”
Eagle netminder Ty Swabb picked up his fourth win in five games since returning from injury and improved his overall record to 9-3-2. Canmore outshot the Kodiaks by a 36-29 margin.
Stephen Phee with his 19th, and Jordan Revie (5) had the other Canmore goals.  Rassell had a three-point night for Canmore and was named the Eagle's “Star of the Game” for the third time in the Eagle's past five games. Rassell is red-hot scoring 10 points in his last five games. Defenceman Mattia Bortolotto, celebrating his 20th birthday, chipped in with two assits.
The Eagles will have little time to savour their hard-earned victory however as they head to Brooks for a game against the Nation’s # 1 ranked Bandits on Sat. Jan. 26. The Bandits are 42-2-2 on the year but the Eagles did win their last game against the Bandits with a 4-3 shoot-out victory in Brooks on Jan. 11.
