The Canmore Eagles threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Devon Xtreme on Sunday afternoon, but a four-goal second period proved to be the difference in a 5-4 loss at GFL Twin Arena.
In his first AJHL start, Xtreme goaltender Madden Mulawka stopped 54 of 58 shots including 23 in the final frame alone, but the Eagles couldn’t find the trying goal as they wrapped up their three-game northern Alberta road trip.
Canmore couldn’t ask for a better start, scoring 1:26 into the game as Cole Wadsworth scored his first of the season after a great individual effort from Aidan Tkachuk.
Tkachuk capped off this productive weekend, that saw him take over the AJHL points lead, with two goals including the tying goal in the third period to make it 4-4. Miller Komarniski had the other goal for the Eagles.
Devon came out firing in the second period, scoring four to erase a 2-0 deficit including one on a six minute powerplay they received in the second period. They went 1 for 6 while Canmore went 0/7 on the powerplay, including a lengthy 5 on 3 advantage late in the third period.
Hudson Sedo stopped 28 of 33 shots for his first loss of the season.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday night as they welcome the Calgary Canucks for a back to back. You can get your tickets at CanmoreEagles.com/tickets.
