Eagles make roster moves

The Canmore Eagles have made three roster moves prior to the Alberta Junior Hockey League Showcase weekend.

Canmore has acquired Josh Hoekstra from the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League.

The 20-year-old forward from Edmonton played four seasons of major junior hockey, appearing in 167 games – including 67 games in each of the past two campaigns. He registered 16 goals and 28 points during his time in the WHL. The 6-foot-1, left-handed shot’s best season was in 2022-23 when he had 10 goals and 7 assists.

Leaving the club are two 20-year-old players in defence Luke Chase and forward Hunter Burgeson – both were listed at 6-foot-4 making them the tallest players in the Eagles’ roster before their departure. Chase, who is expected to join the Nipawin Hawks, was in his second season with the Eagles and registered 4 assists over 55 games. Burgeson, who is expected to join the NB Northstars, was also in his second season and registered 9 goals and 12 assists in 38 games.

The Eagles now have 23 players on their active roster, including 14 forwards, seven defence and two goaltenders.
