CANMORE, AB (JUNE 17 2019)
The Canmore Eagles are proud to announce that 21-year-old graduating Defenceman Mark Drohan has committed to attend and play for the SAIT Trojans of the Alberta College Athletic Conference next season.
The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology is located in Calgary, AB and the Trojans Men?s Hockey team has a long history of winning with 12 ACAC league titles with their most recent win in the 2013-14 season. Their Head Coach is Tyler Drader who became the team?s new bench boss last May. Prior to that, Drader was the Head Coach and General Manager of the Calgary Mustangs for the past 2 1/2 seasons.
Drohan (Calgary, AB) was acquired by the Eagles in June 2018 in a transaction with the Calgary Canucks that involved 3 players. In his lone season spent with the Eagles, he enjoyed a great season with 13 goals and 48 assists for 61 points and played in all 60 games of the regular season. He led the league for most assists, most points and most Power Play points among Defencemen. He was also a finalist for the AJHL?s most Outstanding Defenceman award and he was named to the Viterra South Division All-League team.
Drohan?s season with the Eagles was the 5th and final of his Junior career, as he also played in the Western Hockey League with the Tri-Cities Americans, before spending 2 seasons with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons (2014-16) and 2 seasons with the Calgary Canucks (2016-18).
?Acquiring Mark last summer was huge for our club and we were super excited to make the deal,? said Eagles Head Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne. ?When we acquired Mark, we knew the quality of player he was. He was not only a very good player on the ice but also a good leader, a great person and a great ambassador in our community. With the outstanding season he had, he was able to write his own ticket as he had tons of options regarding programs to continue his Hockey career and further his academics. It?s great that he will get to do that in his hometown.?
Drohan is the 5th Eagles player from the 2018-19 roster to commit to a College/University program. The others are Colton Young (Colgate), Alex Young (Colgate), Quinton Ong (Yale) and Thomas Davis (MacEwan University).
The Canmore Eagles would like to thank Mark for all his contributions to the team and the community this past season and we wish him all the best going forward!
