A CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH

The Eagles and Wolverines meet Saturday with plenty of recent history between them.

Canmore defeat Whitecourt four games to one in last season’s Inter Pipeline Cup Final, capturing their first AJHL championship in franchise history at JDA Place. Tonight brings the Eagles back to Whitecourt as defending champions, with the Wolverines getting an early opportunity to exact revenge for last seasons lost.

The Eagles are off to a perfect start to the season after Friday’s 5-3 victory over the Grande Prairie Storm. The Wolverines are off to a slow start, dropping to 2-4-0 after last night’s lost to Drayton Valley.

WAWRYK’S FIRST AJHL START

Steven Wawryk will make his first AJHL start Saturday, giving starter Hudson Sedo a much deserved rest.

The 18-year old joined the Eagles following another strong season with the Moose Jaw Winmar Warriors U18 AAA. Wawryk recorded 25 wins and six shutouts in 29 regular season appearance, posting a 2.29 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.

He also earned Top Goaltender honours at the 2026 TELUS Cup Western Regional tournament, helping the Warriors reach the championship final.

DAOUST ON A ROLL

20 year old forward Cohen Daoust heads into Whitecourt coming off consecutive two-goal performances.

Daoust scored twice and added an assist in Friday’s win over Grande Prairie, bringing his season totals to four goals and seven points through four games, taking over the team lead.

He scored the Eagles’ first goal Friday shorthanded, helping Canmore erase an early deficit. He added another during the Eagles’ four-goal second period before assisting on Aidan Tkachuk’s third-period power-play marker.

SHORT UP FRONT

The Eagles will dress seven defencemen as injuries and a suspension leave them short at forward.

Hagan Purinton will serve the final game of his two game suspension tonight for a slash against Drumheller. Keegan De Sa is sidelined with a knee injury, while Will Lutic continues to rehabilitate a back injury.

Puck drop is at 7 PM on FloHockey.
