Eagles survive late flurry from Storm to improve to 4-0!

The Canmore Eagles survived a late period surge by the Grande Prairie Storm Friday afternoon to improve their perfect record to 4-0 with a 5-3 win at Bonnetts Energy Centre.

Playing in front of 2.821 fans for Grande Prairie’s annual Hockey Hooky game, Canmore erased an early deficit by scoring five unanswered goals on its way to a fourth consecutive victory.

The Storm opened the scoring with Cole Penner firing home is third of the season past Eagles’ goalie Hudson Sedo, but that would be the last time they would hold the lead.

Canmore would score the next five goals, starting with Cohen Daoust finding the back of the net short handed after a giveaway by Storm goaltender Hudson Perry.

The Eagles would score again two minutes into the second period with Owen Mastroianni sniping home his third of the season, followed 48 seconds later by big Landon Scott’s seeing eye shot from the point. Daoust would score again as the Eagles stretched their lead to 4-1 before the five minute mark of the second period.

This the second straight game that Daoust has scored two goals, bring his total up to 4. He also added an assist to Aidan Tkachuk’s powerplay goal in the third period. He now leads the Eagles in points with 7 in 4 games. Easton Milne also had a three point night with three assists.

Grande Prairie made it interesting late with a couple of powerplay goals, one by Storm captain Braeden Veldhuizen and another by Bowen Grycan, but the Eagles were able to shut the door and secure the victory.

Hudson Sedo got his fourth straight victory stopping 28 of 31 shots. Grande Prairie’s Hudson Perry stopped 19 of 24 in a lost.

The Eagles won’t have much time to celebrate, as Canmore continues their three game northern Alberta road trip Saturday night when they take on the Whitecourt Wolverines in a rematch of last years AJHL final. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Flohockey.
