Malin Captures First Career Shutout

Shutout for Malin

Matthew Malin recorded his first Alberta Junior Hockey League shutout with a 21-save performance as the Canmore Eagles defeated the Grande Prairie Storm 3-0 at the Canmore Recreation Centre on Tuesday (Oct. 11).

The 19-year-old San Francisco, Calif. native is in his second season with the Eagles. He was named to the South Division all-rookie team last season after appearing in 17 games, winning four games, posting a 4.02 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage. He already has four wins this season in six appearances, 2.29 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage.

All of Canmore’s goals came on the power play, with Rhett Dekowny scoring in the second period, and Kyle Young and Mason Bueckert in the third period. The Eagles finished 3-for-7 with the man advantage.

Grande Prairie, which has lost its last five games and fallen to 2-6-1-1 on the season, was 0-for-5 on the power play. Storm goaltender Connor Mackenzie faced 36 shots – 16 of those came in the third period.

Canmore improved its record to 5-5-1-0 on the season. Next up, the Eagles host the Camrose Kodiaks on Friday, 7 p.m. at the Canmore Recreation Centre.
