Hello, hockey fans, one and all!
This is Barb Costley, one of the Canmore Eagles billet coordinators. Monique and I are responsible for the placement of players in people?s homes and we?re the communications liaison between players, parents, billet parents and the coaches.
I hope you?re having a great summer! It?s flying by I?ve found myself feeling the end-of-summer blues tugging at me already – which brings me to the upcoming hockey season ?.
I?m spreading the news about the Eagles Junior Hockey Team needing homes, both temporary and permanent, for a number of players for the upcoming hockey season.
My family is going into our fifth year of billeting a young man. We?ve loved the experience and it has been a great experience. We?ve had three different players stay with us and in all cases, we?ve gotten back from them so much more than I would ever have expected. Their families have been helpful in covering costs, grateful to such an astounding extent and the players themselves have become an extra family member that our two boys have adored and learned so much from. The dinner times that we can all be together for are full of laughter and chatter and I?ve been able to get help with chores and errands when my busy schedule leaves me in a bind during our very busy winter schedules.
I won?t lie and say these guys are intuitive in helpful ways but they respond well to requests and instructions and follow house rules well and respect our home, our routines and our rules. I?ve loved the energy they have brought into our home and I?ve loved the relationship that we?ve fostered with each of them and their families during their stay in our home.
These guys are gone a lot (so much at times that I miss them) over the course of the season. They?re busy boys who are out of the house a lot so don?t think you have to entertain them in any way. They?re independent and self-sufficient and aren?t children. We?ve just been here to give them a loving home to stay in during this exciting time in their lives. We can provide you with more details about billeting but basically, you get $350.00 a month, 15% off at Save On Foods and season tickets for the games. Our billet families are wonderful people and we definitely feel like we?re part of the ?Eagles Family?.
