Eagles Make Move To Aquire Defencemen Jared Bowman

The Canmore Eagles are continuing to retool the roster this offseason. The Eagles have acquired 6’0’’ 195lbs defenceman (99) Jared Bowman formally of the Olds Grizzlys. In order to acquire Bowman the Eagles parted ways with (98) Jake Ashton.

“By adding Jared, we have acquired another defenceman that brings an ability to transition pucks and will add some sandpaper in our own zone,” said Head Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne. “We were able to watch Jared step up his play in important games over the past few years. He played his best hockey in the playoff against us as well as when his team won the Mac’s tournament in midget. He will no doubt bring additional leadership and skill to our dressing room.”

Bowman, 19, already has 110 games of Alberta Junior Hockey League experience as he is set to begin his 3rd junior season. During Bowman’s two seasons in Olds he scored 7 goals, and added 28 assists while amassing 178 PIMs.

To bring in Bowman for Olds, going the other way is Jake Ashton. Ashton appeared in 145 games as an Eagle scoring 35 goals, 36 assists, and adding 49 PIMs. In addition to Ashton's production on the ice, he represented the Eagles organization well in the community.

“We are continuing to build our team for this season and beyond. Adding Jared to our group for not only this year but as well as next season has strengthened the core of our team. Moving Jake was not an easy decision, but we had an opportunity to add a significant piece of the puzzle for the present as well as the future,” said Milne.

The Canmore Eagles Junior Hockey Club wish Jake, and his family all the best in the future.

Fans can watch Bowman when Training Camp opens on August 28th at the Canmore Rec. Centre.
